Personal Bio:

J.Lynn Johnston has a gift for capturing the small moments in life, and expanding on them with wit and insight. He grew up in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley, the son of a music teacher and a computer whiz. Those roots are worn proudly on his sleeve as J.Lynn’s music moves with an articulate intelligence without losing ever losing its “hook.”

As the frontman for the band Mad at Gravity, J.Lynn received international radio airplay (#25 on the Active Rock charts), scored placement in the international action film “Reign of Fire”, as well as securing placement on various other networks' special programming outlets (ESPN, MTV, MTV2, MuchMusic). Various live tours followed, reaching national audiences on a nightly basis of up to 40,000 fans, sharing billing with bands including Jimmy Eat World, P.O.D., Filter, Our Lady Peace, Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Jerry Cantrell, and SevenDust.

Growing up, J.Lynn performed in various youth choirs and stage productions before transitioning into the band format in high school. Barefoot In The Rain came and went, leaving in its wake a plethora of spent acoustic pop ballads. HyperCell followed quickly, who toured their adrenalized rock around Eastern Europe twice before being pulled apart by the quest for higher education.

J.Lynn was restlessly educated, bouncing from school to school, major to major. While in college, he did session work with some major players (David Diggs, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jimmy Haslip, Brandon Fields), and interned at record labels while helping run his campus radio station. Eventually he wound up with a degree in Media Communications, and quite a bit of real-world experience for his tender age. Songs came out.

J.Lynn Johnston draws on influences that run from Motown to Refused. The result is a unique brand of indie-blue-eyed-soul that demands a repeat listen. J.Lynn lives in a loft in Los Angeles with Benetar, his Great Dane.
